cost: cost analysis

Total Cost of Ownership and ability to meet regulatory compliance are central to the ownership decision of wastewater equipment.  While previous pages illustrate the system's ability to meet compliance, we will now examine how The BiO2 Solution™ can significantly lower Total Cost of Ownership.

Many factors are additive to attaining lower cost of ownership, they include: Cost, Carrying Cost, Energy Efficiency, Operations and Maintenance Cost.  Other than cost, two primary factors leading to lower TCO of a BiO2 Solutions system are reduced sludge (sample coming soon) and
reduced energy costs.

The following table compares the total cost of ownership (TCO) of a BiO2 algae-based biological upgrade with a mechanical system for a 300,000 gallon/day system.  In addition to the system components mentioned above CAPEX includes a small solar installation to eliminate the need for electricity from the grid.  Note, a grid-based solution is currently less expensive than solar.  Both assume financing over 20 years.  We conservatively assumed removing sludge once over 20 years for the algae-base solution and twice for the mechanical system.  Some biological lagoons go much longer than 10 years without sludge removal. (i.e, the St. Helena facility in California has gone for 27 years without sludge removal - DOE: Alternative Wastewater Treatment: Advanced Integrated Pond Systems).  Removing sludge from mechanically aerated lagoons ranges from 6-10 years.  A 10 year cycle was used below.  Operations and maintenance (O&M) were calculated at 6% and 8% of CAPEX for the algae-based and mechanical system, respectively.  This includes labor, repair of mechanical parts, spares, etc.  Less skilled labor is needed for the biological solution (a Class C Operator versus a Class A Operator for a mechanical system salaried at $40k and $80k, respectively).

Clearly the illustrated difference in TCO is striking and substantial.  While this analysis will be contextually different for each location, the premises and scalability will remain centrally valid.

Low TCO means nothing without a source of funding to own the system.  Recognizing this, BiO2 Solutions partnered with Everest Financial Network, LLC throughout the United States to provide a clean and cost-effective municipal/industrial lease solution.  Click here for more information.
